Fruit of Goodness

When I set out to do this portion of the Fruit of the Spirit study, I thought I would have a hard time trying to find what goodness would mean as far as fruit in our lives.

However, as usual, God never ceases to amaze me! He showed me so many aspects of goodness and what it means for us, His children. Let me share what was revealed…

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. And they that are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.
– Galatians 5:22-23

GOODNESS

Let’s start with the Greek meaning and then use the dictionary.

Goodness – agathosune (ag-ath-o-soo’-nay): beneficence.

Beneficent means: doing good or causing good to be done; charitable.

Charitable means: generous in gifts to aid the indigent, ill, homeless, etc. Kindly or lenient in judging people. (we will look at the last part of “charitable” more in the next chapter!)
